Mr. Klimas
Mr. Klimas has been the Library Media Specialist at Frank Ward Strong Middle School since 1 February, 2006. Prior to that he was a member of the Social Studies Department at Coginchaug Regional High School from 1998 to 31 January, 2006.
For fifteen seasons he was the coach or "Quizmaster" of Coginchaug's High School Quiz Bowl, an academic competition of quick recall. In those fifteen seasons his teams competed in nine Shoreline Tournament Finals, winning three Shoreline titles in 2001, 2006, and 2013, respectively. Mr. Klimas "retired" from coaching Quiz Bowl in 2013. Mr. Klimas attended The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. graduating in 1993 with a B.A., concentrating in European history; in 1995 he received his M.A. in American history from the University of Connecticut. In 1997 he became a certified teacher upon completing his student teaching through a post-graduate program in education at Central Connecticut State University; he obtained his Library Media Certification in 2003. Mr. Klimas is a lover of culture, learning, and the pursuit of knowledge. His hero is our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. He reads any kind of history. His favorite authors from fiction include Shakespeare, Dickens, and Arthur Conan Doyle. Since becoming a middle school library media specialist he has become a champion of Neal Shusterman, Suzanne Collins, and John Green. He also enjoys collecting antiques, especially old typewriters and phonographs. He is a big fan of classical music which he broadcasts in the LMC as ambient study music. |
