In the 21st century one "newer" role of the Library Media Specialist is to help teachers find quality digital / on-line resources to better assist them in delivering the content and skills their curriculum demands. For those who teach American history, the teachinghistory.org project appears to be a quality site for just such a purpose!
Receiving funding from the U.S. Government this website's mission is to "help K-12" history teachers access resources and materials to improve U.S. history education in the classroom...to raise student achievement by improving teachers' knowledge and understanding of traditional U.S. history...[by] placing...content, teaching strategies, current research and issues, community building, and easy access to resources a center stage."
Note to myself: Creating a comprehensive list of such sites for all subjects being taught at Strong is something I need to address and add to the overall web page...
